Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Mathematics: Numeracy (RQF) – £1,100
The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Mathematics: Numeracy (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual on the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) and accredited through our Awarding Organisation, Training Qualifications UK (TQUK). This qualification is undertaken online through our easy-to-use Online Qualification System.

Qualification Information
The TQUK Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Mathematics: Numeracy (RQF) qualification is a standalone specialist qualification for teachers working in the education and training sector who wish to obtain a specialist teaching qualification in numeracy. The aims of the qualification are to develop learners’ knowledge, skills and attitudes for teaching maths/ numeracy.

Duration of the Qualification
You will have up to one year to complete the qualification, although most learners achieve it with Educating UK within six to eight months.

Content of the Qualification
There are three mandatory units to complete:

Unit 1: Numeracy knowledge and understanding

Unit 2: Numeracy and the learners

Unit 3: Numeracy teaching and learning

A range of topics are covered within the three units including the historical and cultural development of mathematics, language and concepts associated with number systems, the use, interpretation and representation of data, how teaching and learning theories underpin numeracy teaching and learning, assessing numeracy, initial assessments, numeracy teaching approaches and resources, technology and teaching, models of learning, lesson planning and schemes of work and reflective practice.

Qualification Assessment Activities
The qualification is assessed through the completion of written assessments, personal statements and evidence produced during your teaching practice, such as resources, lesson plans and schemes of work. You will be expected to evidence wider reading and include references in your work.

Qualification Requirements
You will be required to show that you have taught a minimum of 50 hours of maths/ numeracy during your time on the qualification. You must also be observed by an Expert Witness a minimum of four times with each observation lasting for a minimum of one hour. Your Expert Witness must be a qualified teacher and can confirm that they have a teaching qualification to at least Level 5, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF) or equivalent.

Entry Requirements

You must:
– Hold a relevant qualification in what you wish to teach, at least one level above your learners. This would be at least at a minimum of Level 3.

– Have reading, writing and communication skills adequate to meet the requirements of the qualification and be able to complete the written assessments to a good standard.

– Have no criminal convictions that would prevent you from working in the capacity of a teacher.

– Have access to an Expert Witness.
