The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual on the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) and accredited through our Awarding Organisation, Training Qualifications UK (TQUK). This qualification is undertaken online through our easy to use Online Qualification System.

Qualification Information
This qualification is suitable for anyone who is already working as a teacher, trainer or tutor, who teaches learners over the age of 14+, in the post 16 sector, within community learning or for private organisations and is looking to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS). It is designed to develop an understanding of the theory of teaching, along with developing skills in the practical elements of teaching.

Duration of the qualification
You will have up to one year to complete the qualification, although most learners complete it with Educating UK within 10 to 12 months. Some learners may complete within a shorter time frame.

Content of the Qualification
The qualification covers seven units:

Unit 1 –Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training

Unit 2 – Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training

Unit 3 –Theories, principles and models in education & training

Unit 4 – Wider professional practice and development in education and training

Unit 5 – Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area

Unit 6 – Inclusive practice

Unit 7 –Teaching in a specialist area

A range of topics are covered within the seven units including; the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, legislation relevant to teaching, teaching and learning approaches, theories of teaching, communication and learning, professional practice in teaching, inclusion, equality and diversity, assessment principles, types and methods of assessment, giving constructive feedback, lesson planning and schemes of work, and developing and using resources when teaching.

Qualification Assessment Activities
The qualification is assessed through the completion of assignments, personal statements, and evidence produced during your teaching practice, such as resources, lesson plans and schemes of work. You will need to evidence wider reading and include references in your work.

Qualification Requirements
You will be required to show that you have taught a minimum of 100 hours during your time on the qualification. You must also be observed by an Expert Witness a minimum of eight times with each observation lasting for a minimum of one hour. Your Expert Witness can be your line manager or a colleague. They must be a qualified teacher and can confirm that they have a teaching qualification to at least Level 5, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF) or equivalent.

You will be given on-going support by your experienced and well qualified Tutor. You will also receive detailed feedback on each of your assessments within 72 hours of submitting your work.

Entry Requirements
You must:
– Hold a relevant qualification in what you wish to teach at at least one level above your learners. Ideally this would be at least at a minimum of Level 3.
– Have reading, writing and communication skills adequate to meet the requirements of the qualification and be able to complete the written assessments to a good standard.

– Have no criminal convictions that would prevent you from working in the capacity of a teacher.

– Have access to an Expert Witness
