This qualification is regulated by TQUK and is undertaken online. This is suitable for learners who perform a full teaching role and want a qualification which focuses on both the practical and theoretical elements of teaching. Learners may already be teaching and wish to have their experience and practice accredited, or not presently teaching but capable of meeting the minimum teaching practice requirement of 100 hours for this qualification.
Duration of the qualification
There is no set time frame for completion of the qualification. Most learners complete within eight to twelve months. Some learners may complete the qualification within a quicker time frame.
Content of the Qualification
The qualification covers are range of units including the theories, principles and models of teaching, wider professional practice in teaching, inclusion, assessment, feedback, planning and resources in education and training.
Qualification Assessment Activities
The qualification is assessed through the completion of assignments, learner statements, action plans and evidence produced during teaching practice, such as resources, lesson plans and schemes of work. Learners are expected to evidence wider reading and include references in their work. Learners must also be observed a minimum of eight times. Each observation of the teaching practice must last for a minimum of one hour.
There are no specific entry requirements other than the following:
- Reading and communication skills should be adequate to meet the requirements of the learning.
- Have no criminal convictions that would prevent them from working in the capacity of a teacher
- Hold a relevant qualification at a level above that of their learners. Ideally this would be at least at Level 3, but this is not mandatory.
