The Level 4 Award in Observation of Teaching and Learning (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual on the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) and accredited through our Awarding Organisation, Training Qualifications UK (TQUK). This qualification is undertaken online through our easy to use Online Qualification System.
Qualification Information
This qualification is suitable for any teachers, tutors and trainers qualified at Level 3 or above, working in schools, FE, adult and community learning or work-based training within public, private or voluntary organisations. It has been developed for teachers, tutors and trainers who undertake formal observations of colleagues delivering teaching or training sessions.
Duration of the qualification
You will have up to one year to complete this qualification, although most learners complete it within three to four months.
Content of the Qualification
The qualification contains two mandatory units:
Unit One: Unit One: Observation of Teaching, Training
Unit Two: Feedback after an Observation of Teaching, Training and Learning
A range of topics are covered within the two units including types and approaches to observations, how to plan for observations, grade descriptors, quality assurance requirements for observations, observation judgements, giving feedback and dealing with conflict after an observation.
Qualification Assessment Activities
The qualification is assessed through the completion of written assignments and undertaking two separate lesson observations on colleagues you work with. You will also be required to write an Observation Report for each observation you undertake with your colleagues.
Qualification Requirements
You must be able to conduct two observations on two different colleagues during your time on the qualification. The observations each must last for a minimum of 30 minutes, and you must complete an Observation Report for each observation.

Entry Requirements
You must have a teaching qualification at Level 3 or above, such as PTLLS, CTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) or equivalent.
